Hog Roast Little Houghton Catered For A 60th Birthday Party At A Quirky Location!

Hog Roast Little Houghton was hired to serve our incredible Alfresco Menu at Marcus’ 60th birthday party last weekend, and we can’t wait to tell you how it went.

The organiser of this incredibly special event had been Marcus’ wife, Liz, who wanted to give him a day he would never forget. Spoiler Alert: he won’t, and neither will we! Because not only did Liz enlist our help to create a sublime birthday dinner for everyone who attended the affair, but she had also planned for the event to take place at East Anglia’s iconic Cley Windmill!

With views overlooking the Cley saltmarshes and the North Sea, this 19th-century venue has it all if you’re looking for a quirky celebration spot like Liz was. She was so pleased to have gotten a booking at this highly coveted location and was even more excited to see her husband’s face when she finally let him in on the surprise. But before she could tell him what she had been up to, Liz needed to make sure that the guests were on board. She had invited just a small group of close family members to the party, and after they had confirmed their attendance, Liz was hot on the phone to Hog Roast Little Houghton, where she spoke with our catering managers, Andrew and James, about dining options.

Keeping true to their word, the pair spent all afternoon working on the buffet, which included Italian-inspired charcuterie boards, side salads, coleslaw and mixed fries. They also rustled up some grilled vegetable skewers with optional halloumi cheese, but the real star of the show was, of course, the hog roast.

In the hours before the guests arrived, Andrew and James had slow-roasted a full-size free-range hog over a deep layer of sage and onion stuffing until the skin was crisp and golden, with some tasty black spots in all the right places. In contrast, the meat inside was soft and succulent – so succulent, in fact, that the guests could hardly resist helping themselves to seconds!

Marcus, especially, was overjoyed with the party that Liz had put together for him, and he was amazed by Hog Roast Little Houghton’s sensational buffet, which combined flavour and style to create the perfect birthday feast.
