The event in Newbourne yesterday went well despite the torrential downpour that almost put an abrupt end to proceedings! It was a corporate gig which is always nice because the numbers were pretty big and it’s a guaranteed turn out.
The company rented a pretty big venue for the event so we had a full team this time around. They wanted to put on a pretty posh front so we were all in uniform for the event and on our best behaviour. We set up the marquee with two roast stations with full hogs. One had a classic herb and butter baste and the other a honey and mustard glaze. They were both little belters. We had plenty of olive salad and bought fresh baked cob rolls and a multitude of sauces and dressings. We were left hanging a bit as the serving was due to start at 2 but the bosses had them all doing some sort of team building exercise. We got a good giggle out of it and you could tell thy we’re all starving!
We started serving and it went down really well. Both roasts carved beautiful and thin and we got a ton of compliments on the cooking. Glen’s garlic and dill mayonnaise was a surprising hit. We started to get people asking where it was when it had gone. Told him he might be sat on a fortune there like Levi Roots (inventor of Reggae Reggae sauce). Should bottle it. Oh speaking of which a very nice man by the name of Samuel asked us if we could do a Jamaican themed event of his mothers’ 60th in a month. I jumped at he chance. Never actually done that kind of event but I love the challenge!
Then came the downpour. Never seen it so bad actually. Anyway we definitely need the marquee re-canvassing as all of a sudden water comes pouring through literally an inch away from one of the roasts! I’ve never moved so fast in my life. We managed to make sure it was far enough away but there wasn’t anything we could really do about it at the time besides let it poor! That’s going cost us!
The main boss gave a speech towards the end and paid special tanks to us for the “wonderful food and exemplary service” which was a really nice moment. It’s times like that which make the job very rewarding and not just because we get to cook such beautiful food!
The event came to a close earlier than planned so we carved up the last of the meat to give to the delegates. No sense wasting it! Anyway the event went well considering and I think that company will definitely consider using us again for anther corporate event.
