A professional caterer working around and about is likely to come across demanding customers. In a competitive business environment, nothing less than the best will do.
After lots of research and some trial and error, there was no other option left but getting the best equipment available. A few machines from the Titan Stainless Steel Range, chosen with the helpful advice from The Spitting Pig Company, have rescued the day on many occasions.
Near the beginning of a successful catering career, we bought a few machines for different uses from many companies and we were surprised by the difference in quality from a manufacturer to another. Some did not even have a CE mark, sign that engineering is unlikely to be good, possibly even unsafe (e.g. lack of counterbalance), and/or the machine has come to the market from less than trust-worthy channels.
We found out the importance of that during an event involving different catering companies at a difficult site: there were stalls all over a piece of land enclosed by a building on the front and water on the other sides. The only direct access to the land was from the gate guests used. Stalls were mainly auctioning local crafts and a few companies provided food to the crowds.
The first thing we noticed was how much easier our new hired machine was to operate (delivered at a single day notice and ready installed with gas in 10 minutes). We decided to buy it right away. People were all over to watch our food cooking (and sales boomed) thanks to the glass panel and raising tray.
Convection heat in the BBQ plates meant no burned food as in traditional charcoal BBQs. Stainless steel means no paint flakes in your food (and easy cleaning).
We learnt a few tricks from the CD included and had questions answered by the friendly telephone service.
During the event (when guests were already in) a competitor’s machine broke down and they asked us to step in. We had another machine delivered and we could use the building back door, as the machine is sized to fit. Our colleagues were gob-smacked a single person could bring the machine, thanks to proper wheels and clever steering.
As our colleagues required different food than planned, we appreciated machines’ versatility: with all attachments (quickly delivered), use of 12V, 240V or no power at all, combination oven, BBQ etc. you can cook all types of meat, vegetables and even burgers and sausages while carving meat, making quality catering as cheap as ever
