Have you ever found yourself wondering what goes on behind the scenes in the life of one of our skilled hog roasters, here at Hog Roast Southwold? If so, you’re in for a treat. While guests savour the mouthwatering results of a perfectly roasted hog, there’s an entire day of meticulous preparation and attention to detail that unfolds long before the first bite is served. So, here’s what a day in the hog roaster looks like.
The day begins very early, with meticulous prep work. In the days beforehand, the Hog Roast Southwold team will head to one of the local farms to source the finest free-range meat and the ripest fresh goods. On the day of the event itself, the first step is all about seasoning and marinating—carefully rubbing in spices to ensure the meat is bursting with rich, flavourful goodness. Then comes the all-important equipment check. Every part of the spit is inspected to make sure it’s spotless, safe, and ready to go. Finally, the morning wraps up with logistics planning. The roaster packs up everything needed for the event, from sharp carving knives to serving trays, sauces, and side dishes.
Once at the venue, the pig is carefully placed on the spit, ready for its six-hour transformation into a mouthwatering centrepiece. Roasting a hog is no simple task—keeping the flame steady requires experience and a practiced hand. Too much heat can scorch the skin, while too little leaves the meat undercooked. The Hog Roast Southwold team stays on top of every detail, constantly monitoring the progress and ensuring the crackling skin turns into the perfect golden crunch.
Once carved, the meat is beautifully arranged on serving platters, so that guests can help themselves. We also add a range of delectable sauces, fresh salads, and other chosen accompaniments to the spread. If preferred, we can also serve guests to their seats. This is a decision we’ll help you with in the weeks beforehand so that everything is set and ready to go.
