Hog Roast Taverham is renowned for its succulent hog roasts that we cook from scratch until we get amazingly moist meat and salty, crispy crackling. We’re also known for our scrumptious spit-roasted meat options, too, but did you know that we can provide lots of variety as well? Whether you need extra dishes or alternatives, we have something for everyone. For a celebration at Mile Cross Primary School in Norwich recently, we were asked to cook our very popular Southern Slow Roast Menu for 400 people. This menu gives you several types of marinated meat that we roast slowly at a low temperature, as well as several accompanying dishes, so there’s plenty of food to go around.
Mile Cross Primary School is in its tenth year since opening and the event would celebrate this as well as the outstanding Ofsted received in December. For the feast at the school, Hog Roast Taverham was asked to cook barbecued pork butt, Cajun-spiced whole roast chickens and Creole pulled quarter of spiced lamb, which would all be served with some tasty sauces. The side dishes would include our corn cobettes, a seasonal green leaf salad, Cajun-spiced sweet potato wedges and skin-on Southern-Style whole baked potatoes. We also provide fresh bread rolls or wraps with this menu, and with there being children guests too, we would be taking along some smaller bread rolls for the smaller mouths.
On the day of the event, Hog Roast Taverham arrived in the morning, well before service, in order to roast the meats slowly and evenly for a few hours. We roast them ages before we cook the accompanying dishes, watching over them to make sure they turn out perfectly. It was a lovely, sunny day and before long, the venue started filling up with people setting up circus activities (we even saw stilt walkers), an area in the playground for penalty shoot-outs, and where balloon-making would take place. There would clearly be lots of fun things to do on this afternoon. We had two lines of service all afternoon between 1.30pm and 5pm, with the guests having plenty of fun and then afterwards satisfying their hunger with us. It was a busy day but we loved every minute!
