We love it when we get a chance to give back to the community – and what better way than supporting the families of our service members at RAF Fakenham’s annual families day? The team at Hog Roast Fakenham were apprehensive when approached to cater the event – it is a massive ordeal, with hundreds of guests, fair-ground rides for the little ones (and the more adventurous adults!), tribute bands to play on the stage, and a fireworks display to top the night off. However, we have never been one to turn down a challenge, and so we agreed to help in whatever way we could: by providing our signature hog-roast to as many guests as possible!
We arrived at the base early in the morning, and were escorted by armed personnel to the large recreation ground where the event would be taking place – already there was fencing being erected, Ferris wheels and wave swingers being built – we were given an allotment and began to set up shop. As we put up our marquee, it struck us how daunting it was, being in the heart of such a crucial part of our country’s defence, but here at Hog Roast Fakenham we thrive on pressure and were eager to live up to expectations. As the families began to filter in, our delicious hog had been cooking for a few hours already, and was beginning to attract quite the crowd. We prepared the pillow soft bread rolls, slathering them with our homemade apple sauce in anticipation of the main event: the hog roast.
When the pig was ready, we began serving the freshly cooked meat, dripping with juices into the bread rolls, topping it off with some crackling and sage and onion stuffing! By the time the tribute bands began to play, we were sure everyone had ate their fill! It was such an honour to be able to attend such an event and provide our nation-renowned service to the service personnel who make our country so great!
